Georgia Tech's FLASH IN THE PAN 2007: Animation Challenge -- Official Contest Details

Show us your stuff, Georgia Tech! Create a Flash animation video, entertain your friends, win a fabulous prize and have your work seen by industry professionals!

Contest Details:

  • Any current GT student (undergraduate or graduate) may enter.
  • Entries must be designed using Adobe/Macromedia Flash.
(Use of other programs in the design is welcome , just make sure FLASH is incorporated.)

  • Entries must be received before midnight October 18, 2007.
  • Based on recent feedback --Deadline extended through Sunday October 21st at midnight

  • or submit in person /by mail to the library.

  • Suggested video length: 2 to 5 minutes. (flexible)
  • There is no theme, but be creative, keep it clean, and make it good.
  • Group submissions are welcome, but only one prize per winning entry will be awarded.
  • Winners will be announced at the Library East Commons (LEC) Award Show- Time and Date TBA.
  • The grand-prize winner will receive a Graphire Bluetooth Wacom tablet. Other prizes to be announced. Free giveaways such as Adobe Software and Cool Tshirts.

Online FLASH books available to GT Students

Want to learn FLASH or another software program? Check out Safari Tech Books Online. This is a free service available to you from the GT Library. It’s loaded with about 170 of the latest books from Adobe Press, O’Reilly, Sams, Microsoft, and more.

  • From the GT Library Website, click on “Articles (Databases)”

  • Scroll down a little and click on “S

  • Click on “Safari Tech Books Online” and log-in with your prism account info.

All books are fully searchable. Once you’re in Safari be sure to click on “my bookshelf” – those are the books you have access too. Sorry, but we don’t have “all content”access at this time, however if there are titles you’re interested let us know for the future. If you want to browse all available books, click on the Library link near the upper left side.

GT Library Multi-Media Studio Classes

On September 20th at 4pm, the GT Library's Multi-Media Studio will hold an introductory class in Flash. Check out the full listing of classes for more information:
Joseph Jo - Monday 9/17 5PM AE

After Effects is a digital motion graphics and
compositing software. It can be seen
as Photoshop with time, allowing users
to manipulate images and graphics that move.
We will be using After Effects 7.0 on Macintosh computers.

Tin Le - Thursday 9/20 4PM Flash

It is an introductory class to familiarize
students with Flash CS3 and provide
students with a basic understanding of vector graphics.
In this class, students will
learn the user interface, the toolbar, the timeline
and the top menu. In addition,
students will learn how to draw basic shapes using
the pen tool, the line tool and
the shape tool. Students will also learn to use
the selection tool and the transform
tool to modify shapes.

Chinh Ngo - Tuesday 9/25 5PM Maya

This is an introductory class to Maya for everyone
who is new to 3D computer animation. The class presents an
overview of the Maya environment and workflow.
Students will get a chance to create a scene,
texture and animate it, and finallyrender it as a movie.

Ting Cheng - Tuesday 9/18 3PM Photoshop

To present an introductory class to familiarize students
with Photoshop CS3 and
provide students with a basic understanding of tools
and techniques. In this class,students will learn about
the image resolution, layers, the toolbar, and
the printing process.
In addition, students will learn some basic photo editing
techniques, such as selecting, cutting, copying, cropping,
red eye eliminating, and
the brightness/contrast level.

Natasha Powell - Wednesday 9/26 4PM - iMovie

Learn how to use iMovie to create DVD movies, presentations,
podcasts and more. Also learn how to add streaming
videos to your movie,
normalize your volume, and other
tips to make your movie more seamless.

Ben Rodriguez - Monday 9/24 1:30PM Sketchup

The class will encompass the basics of sketchup. Student
will learn how to use the tool palette
and build a structure.
From there students will learn how to create a
movie in sketchup and export the movie
to a powerpoint presentation.
